Kloster Eberbach * Eberbach Monastery
Das Kloster war nicht nur das Heim von Zisterziensermöchen, es war auch einer der Drehorte für den Film "Im Namen der Rose" (mit Sean Connery). Die Landschaft um das Kloster herum ist spektakulär - genau wie der erste Blick darauf. Gegründet im Jahr 1136, wurde die Abtei erst im Jahr 1803 aufgelöst. This place was not only the home of Cistercian monks, it was also one of the locations of the movie "The Name of the Rose" (with Sean Connery). The landscape around the monastery is spectacular - as is the first view of it. Founded in 1136 the abbey was dissolutioned only in 1803. More information can be found on their website.

Set around the inner courtyard are beautiful archways - all of them adorned with sandstone reliefs.

Überall findet man Wandreliefs, Statuen und Sandsteinskulpturen. * There are murals, reliefs, statues and sandstone carvings everywhere.
Einer Treppe nach oben folgend, findet man auf der einen Seite einen Alkoven, in dem man eine Kerze entzünden und ein Gebet sagen kann... * Going up a staircase at the side of the church there is an alcove to one side where you can light a candle and say a prayer...
... während man auf der anderen Seite ein Blick in eine Schreibstube möglich ist. * ... while you can get a view into a scriptorium on the other side.
Am Ende der Treppe angekommen, öffnet sich der Blick ins Dormitorium - der Schlafsaal der Mönche. Als er noch genutzt wurde, war er in kleine Zellen unterteilt. * On top of the stairs is the dormitorium - the place where the monks slept. Back then the hall was divided into small cells.
Das Dormitorium ist auch die Heimat einiger Schwalben, die ihre Nester an der Decke gebaut haben. * The dormitorium is also the home of some swallows that have built their nests below the ceiling.
Durch eine Seitentür betritt man das Museum, wo Statuen, alte Bücher und Karten, Ornatsgewänder und verschiedene Kruzifixe ausgestellt sind. * From here you can enter the museum that exhibits statues, old books and maps, regalias and various crucifixes.
