Landesgartenschau Landau * State Horticultural Show Landau
Am ersten richtigen Sommertag des Jahres machte ich mich auf nach Landau, um die dortige Landesgartenschau zu besichtigen. Das Konzept dort unterscheidet sich von anderen Gartenschauen, weil es nicht nur um Pflanzen geht, sondern auch um die Erstellung eines neues Stadtteils. Das Areal ist auch durch den Kontrast zwischen alten Militärgebäuden und der Pflanzenausstellung gekennzeichnet.
On the first real summer day of this year I went to Landau to visit the State Horticultural Show there. The concept is quite different to other horticulture shows, because there are not only the gardens, but also the development of a new city quarter. The area is also marked by the contrast between former military buildings and the garden exhibits.
Der Parkplatz befindet sich ein ganz schönes Stück vom Eingang entfernt. Entlang des Weges gibt es Blumenskulpturen, die von Kindern kunterbunt bemalt wurden. * The parking lot is quite a bit away from the entrance I chose. Along the way are flower signs that were painted in vivid colors by children.
Im Moment gibt es viele farbenfrohe Blumenbeete entlang der Spazierwege - viele von ihnen beinhalten die lilafarbenen Alliums. * At the moment there are many colorful flower beds along the walkways - many of them include the purple alliums.
Ich mag dieses Kugeln wirklich sehr - daher schaute ich bei ihnen und ihren wundervoll detaillierten Blüten etwas näher hin. * I really love these spheres - therefore I took a closer look at them and their beautifully detailed petals.
Aktuell gibt es in einer der alten Panzerhallen eine Orchideen-Schau. Leider war sie gerade noch im Aufbau, deshalb waren viele der vorgesehenen Ausstellungsplätze noch leer. * Currently there are orchids on display in one of the former tank halls. Regrettably it was only in the process of getting set up so a lot of the designated spots were still empty.
Was mir richtig gut gefiel war der Mix zwischen Wild- und Kulturpflanzen. In vielen Beeten gab es zum Beispiel Mohnblumen. * What I really liked was the mix of wild and cultivated flowers. A lot of the flower beds contained for example poppies.
Keine Ahnung, was das hier ist. Ich sah es in einem der Gartenzelte und fand es ziemlich interessant. * I have no idea what this is. Found it in one of the garden tents and thought it looked quite interesting.
Viele zarte Blüten verschiedenster Sorten sind hier zu finden. * Many delicate flowers of all varieties can be found here.
Ein Teilareal ist mit Holzstößen und danebenliegenden Wildblumenbeeten aufgesetzt. Wahrscheinlich, um ein Refugium für Insekten wie Bienen und Schmetterlinge zu schaffen. * A part of the area is set up with wood stacks and wildflowers next to them. Most likely to provide a habitat for insects like bees and butterflies.
Dort war es auch, wo ich auf ein bienen-artiges Insekt traf, das ich vorher noch nie gesehen hatte. Es stellte sich heraus, dass es sich um eine sogenannte Holzbiene (Xylocopa violacea) handelte. Ich habe das letzte Bild hinzugefügt, obwohl es sehr unscharf ist, weil man darauf sehr schön erkennen kann, dass die Flügel der Biene tatsächlich blau sind. * It was there that I saw a bee-like insect that I had never seen before. It turned out that it is called a wood bee (Xylocopa violacea). I added the last pic even though it is very blurred, because there you can see that their wings are indeed blue.
Selbstverständlich gab es hier auch viele "normale" Bienen. * Of course there were also quite a few "normal" bees around.
Die Außenflächen des Parkgeländes bestehen hauptsächlich aus Wildblumenwiesen. * To the outer perimeter of the garden grounds consists mostly of wildflower meadows.
Hier fand ich auch diese - trotz des Windes - fast unbeschädigte Pusteblume. * Here I found not only this - despite the wind - nearly undamaged dandelion...
Aber auch einige Disteln. * But also a few thistles.
Diese Stühle laden die Menschen ein, sich inmitten von Mohnblumen unter einem Baum niederzulassen. * These chairs invite people to sit under a tree in the middle of a patch of poppies.
Kein gewöhnlicher Baum, sondern einer, in dem viele buntbemalte Vogelhäuschen hängen. * Not just any tree but one with many colorful birdhouses in it.
Ein weiteres tolles Detail ist die Farbenvielfalt, die in vielen Blumenbeeten zu finden ist. * Another really pleasant thing is the riot of colors that can be found in many flower beds.
Und natürlich gab es auch hier wieder meine geliebten Margeriten. * And of course there also were my precious giant daisies again.
Es gibt einen 25 Meter hohen Turm, von dem aus man einen großartigen Blick über die Gartenschau, die umliegende Landschaft, die Stadt Landau und den Pfälzer Wald hat. * There is a 25 meter high tower from which you have a great view across the horticulture show, the surrounding landscape, the city of Landau and of course the Palatinate Forest.
Ich hatte schon vom Turm aus einen flüchtigen Blick auf diese Scheiben erhaschen können. Sie bewegen sich selbst in der kleinsten Brise und sollen das Sonnenlicht reflektieren. * I had already caught a glimpse of those from up on the tower. These are discs that are meant to move in the slightest breeze and reflect the sunlight.
Dieses sogenannte "Kreativdorf" war aus Ästen und Stoffbändern gebaut worden. * This is called "the creative village". The huts were built with branches and ribbons of cloth.
Neben einem der alten Gebäude gibt es den perfekten Mix aus Weinberg und Blumengarten. * Next to one of the old buildings is a perfect mix between a vineyard and a flower garden.
Mein persönliches Highlight waren die Rosen in all ihren verschiedenen Farben und in all ihrer Pracht. * My personal highlight were the roses in all their different colors and in all their glory.
Selbst beschädigt ist diese Rose noch wunderschön anzusehen. Vollkommene Unvollkommenheit. * Even damaged this rose is still beautiful to look at. Perfect imperfection.
Es gibt sogar einen kleinen nachgebildeten Tempelgarten. * There even is a small faux temple garden.
In einem Torbogen befindet sich diese schöne Skulptur. * In a gateway of a building is this beautiful sculpture.
Fazit: Obwohl die Gartenschau in Landau ganz anders ist als zum Beispiel die, die in Mannheim stattfand, ist sie doch auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert. Besonders Familien könnten die verschiedenen Freizeitangebote speziell für Kinder und Jugendliche, wie Spielplätze und Mitmach-Aktivitäten, genießen.
Conclusion: While the Landau horticulture show is quite different from the one that took place for example in Mannheim it is nevertheless worth a visit. Especially families might enjoy the various recreational activities for kids and teenagers, e.g. playgrounds or creative action.
